Hello from sunny Crete, Greece. Usually the people in England would be envious of the sunshine I’m sitting in, but I hear it’s pretty hot back there. Too hot, apparently.

We wouldn’t be British if we didn’t have the weather to complain about. I’ve said it before but it seems like England just isn’t prepared for anything but grey weather.
Anyway, the temperature here in Greece has been mid-to-late 20s and it feels great. Hot enough to enjoy without having to escape the sun.
Mrs OddFather and I last came to Crete 11 years ago. It was one of the first holidays we had done together. Here we are again – married with two kids. We were supposed to be meeting our Aussie friends here, but their European trip was cancelled due to the shortage of jet fuel. Thanks Trump.
But you work with what you have. The flight was delayed several times, which meant we had a cranky two-year-old OddSon to deal with on the flight. We’re in the process of potty training him so that adds some additional spice to life whereby he seems to want to go for a wee every 10 mins. I mean, it’s like he actually enjoys going to toilets. Whatever floats his boat I guess. He always manages to squeeze a wee out though!
I didn’t want to deal with a toilet accident on the plane so suggested we put a pull-up nappy on him. And as is the case with the OddSon, he decided to soil said nappy a few seconds before we took off. I didn’t have him down as a nervous flyer but that takes “shitting yourself” to whole new levels.

Mrs OddFather won’t admit it, but the nappy idea was a genius move by me… except it leaked out the nappy. You win some, you lose some.
The OddSon is definitely going through the terrible adventurous twos at the moment. And he seems to get a kick out of it. For instance, at restaurants he would start shouting at the top of his voice because he finds it amusing. I’m not one to shy away from attention, but having the whole restaurant turn to look at you is pushing it a bit.
In terms of sleeping arrangement, Mrs OddFather and I have one room, with the OddDaughter and OddSon in the room next door. It doesn’t take a lot to get the OddSon to regress in his sleep, so he’s sleeping less here, gets crankier, and wants me to sing Baa Baa Black Sheep to him on loop through the night to the point I feel like I’m singing it to myself every minute of the day.

So, I think it’s fair to say I too have been a bit cranky this holiday. Not least because I’m feeling a tad bit of FOMO from all the Arsenal celebrations and plans for the weekend.
The resort is more authentic Greek – still all inclusive but not your marble corridors as I initially expected. It means the food is a bit more limited but it’ll do. I love the location though, we’re surrounded by a mountainous area and it’s not super busy so it feels rather peaceful… just what other guests need when a screaming OddSon comes bulldozing through.
We’ve spent most of the days at the beach. The OddDaughter is in her element there and would probably happily sleep at the beach if that’s what we had to do. She’s much easier to look after, pretty much looking after herself. And makes friends easily. Which means the parents have the joy of awkwardly becoming “friends” too.
Would I recommend Crete? Yeah I would. There’s a lot of history here that we saw more of 11 years ago – but it’s just a pretty destination in general with friendly locals. How do I know they’re friendly? Because I’ve worn a different Arsenal shirt each day I’ve been here – and I’ve received nothing but love for it.
Arsenal win on Saturday and this may very well turn into the best holiday of my life. But let’s save those thoughts for my weekly Arsenal posts.
Right, I’m getting notifications of my iPad overheating so I’ll leave it there. Peace out.
