Happy New Year: 2025 Edition

Posted by

Hello again my beauties. I am back. For the millionth time. The amount of comebacks I’ve made on this blog I’d be giving Beniffer a run for their money. Wait – they’ve split up again right? Expect them to get back together again in 2034… while I still figure out what to do with this blog.

So, I’m going to try the whole daily blog thing again. The aim is to keep it as close to 500 words as I can. That way it would only take – quick google search – 2-3 mins to read. Wow, that’s not very long. Maybe I should up it a bit? Maybe not.

Once again, it may last a week, it may last a month, it may last a single day… who knows what the future holds.

Here we are, 2025 already. I saw a post somewhere we’re as close to 2050 now as we are to 2000. Bit depressing eh? Except to those born in this century. I hate you. I’m not a big believer in the whole “New Year, New Me” bullshit, I’ve been trying to reinvent myself since 1997 and I’m no closer now. But, it is a good time to reflect on the last year and look to what may be in store for the year ahead.

The good of 2024

  • No surprises what will top this list. The arrival of the OddSon, and thus becoming a family of 4. It’s what we wanted for a while, and though it’s been tiring, it has been the best thing ever.
  • Seeing the OddSon grow over the last 9 months has been a spectacle. From tiny wrinkly blob, to the curly-haired maniac who would smash through a brick wall if it meant he can get to that choking-hazard item on the other side.
  • Speaking of growing – The OddDaughter has really turned it up. The moment she started school she was in her element, and seeing her read and spell her first few words couldn’t make me prouder.
  • A personal achievement for me – finding a job that I actually enjoy. It may be demanding, but I love every minute of it. Finding any job at all in this market was looking like an impossible task, so to find one I enjoy is really something.
  • I have loved football again the last year or so thanks to Arsenal. It’s been such a fun journey following a pretty damn good football team again. However…

The bad of 2024

  • Arsenal not winning anything – despite being the best team in English football over the calendar year. This team deserves something – and something big. But you don’t get anything for being the best over a calendar year. The title looks out of reach already, but I just know something good is coming… question is more about how soon?
  • Going through redundancy just before the arrival of the OddSon was not ideal. I saw it coming but I didn’t expect them to pull the trigger a week before I was due to go on paternity leave. It was the right thing, but it was handled so extremely poorly it triggers me just thinking back to it. I keep promising a blog post to spill the beans – maybe this year.

What‘s to come in 2025?

  • Better eating. I am eating like crap, far too often. I need to get a handle now or else I’m going to suffer a heart attack before 40.
  • More running. Good for the mind, good for the body. We all know the benefits. No excuses – I just need to run more than I have in 2024 and 2023 combined – a measly 300km.
  • Read more. If I can read even 1 book a month this year I’ll feel that’s an achievement.
  • Teach sleep. The OddSon needs to learn to sleep through the night. I don’t know how, but it has to happen soon.
  • Pray harder. This is what I’m having to resort to in order for Arsenal to make up the 9 points to catch up to Liverpool with Saka making a miraculous recovery next week.

So, to summarise… New year, new me.
