Today I had the privilege of attending a special advance screening of a movie at Cineworld. Was it worth the ticket?
I do like a nice surprise. So, when the opportunity came to book a ticket for Cineworld’s Secret Screening 2 I wasn’t going to pass that up. For the record I haven’t got a clue what the 2 is for, apparently they’ve done this many a time before.
Leading up to today, I was genuinely excited at the thought of what the movie may be. To the point where I cut a 40th birthday celebration short and turned down meal and drinks with co-workers I hadn’t seen in person in like a year! I literally ran into the cinema in order to make it in time for the title card.
Before I do the reveal – here’s some of the options the movie may have been.
My highest hope was for this to be an advance screening of one of this year’s Marvel entries. Probably wouldn’t be Eternals as that’s still a fair while away, but with Shang-Chi being released in less than a month I thought this was a very real possibility.
Or if not the traditional MCU movie, maybe it would be the Venom sequel that’s due out soon too. I reckon that would be a fun movie to sit through on hump day.
Maybe it will be a screening for the upcoming Bond movie, No Time to Die. That would be amazing given how it’s not due for release until September 30th. However, I feel this would be a bit of a long shot.
If I were a betting man, I would guess it will be a showing of The Green Knight. This was supposed to be released on August 6th in the UK but was once again pulled due to Covid cases going on the rise. Seeing as its release continued on schedule in the US, I think this makes sense for the secret screening. I’d be up for this – I’ve heard good things about it.
On a side note, I was once told Dev Patel was my celebrity lookalike. I can’t quite work out if that’s a good thing or a bad thing. Most likely the comparison was just a lazy “he’s brown, you’re brown” observation…
But without further ado, the movie revealed to everyone in the screen was…
Wait for it…
Just a bit longer…
Next line I promise…
…Free Guy.
Yeap, you heard that correctly.
Free Guy.
The movie that’s going to be released in all cinemas in less than 2 days.
A movie that I’ve already booked a ticket to see in the coming days.
Can’t say I’m not a little bit disappointed. I mean, I’ve been looking forward to seeing this movie, but I just expected a more advanced screening of something. This didn’t really make me feel that special at all.
Check back in a day or two for my review of Free Guy.
