Some Tuesday morning positivity

Posted by

Morning all. As I sit here on my train to London, I realise the last couple of blog posts haven’t been all that positive. So, I’m going to devote today’s post to focus on some things to feel gratitude for.

Loved ones

I touched upon this yesterday. Having a young family may mean you don’t get time to yourself as often as you’d like. It definitely means life changes to what it was several years ago. But, nothing compares to the joy I get from having the OddDaughter come and hug me as she sees me, or the OddSon get excited and crawl to me when I walk through the door. Even if sometimes he’s slowed down by crawling into a chair – he hasn’t quite grasped the spacial awareness of his head.

And it doesn’t have to be just kids to be thankful for. It can be other family members, friends, pets – the postman. I’d like to hope all people in my network at least has someone that makes it all seem worthwhile.

Opportunities

This one gets taken for granted. I don’t think we fully appreciate just how much we can achieve in our lives. Especially if you compare yourself to others living in deprived areas of the world. Want a new car? Or a nice holiday? Well there’s opportunities to make it happen. Whether it be to strive for a promotion at work, learn a new skill, take on a side job, selling your creative output. Or even just having a rich parent who can write you a cheque to make it happen! Does anyone still write cheques these days? I don’t know, but you get the gist. You have the power at your disposal to make an active change if you want something new.

Small moments

Sometimes I wake up and really look forward to that first cup of coffee before the day begins. Or getting the chance to watch a movie, uninterrupted at full volume. Maybe even sitting down to read a book before the day is done. And just ask Mrs OddFather how happy I get when we decide to have an impromptu chippy meal where I get my hands on a kebab.

Point is, life is made up of lots of small moments that make us happy. Find out what these are for you and make them happen when you need it most.

Health

This is the big one. Life is about this one thing. To stay healthy and to survive. And even if small health issues exist – we should still be thankful we have enough health to wake up each and every morning. If that’s not something to celebrate, then what is?

For me, the things that are making me feel positive in the coming months involve:

  • Going on a holiday with the kids, I don’t do well in winter so a warm break really helps.
  • Also, I’m quite excited to buy a new car – it’s actually Mrs OddFather that is upgrading her car, but I have enough of a say to sway her this way or that.
  • Having lots more cuddles with the OddKids.
  • And Arsenal winning the league. Ok, this isn’t a guarantee – and very unlikely. But belief is part of the fun- so why shouldn’t I enjoy the journey?
