Another week gone, another week closer to the return of REAL football.
So, good transfer news since I last posted – Bruno G is now an Arsenal player. I believe this is a great addition to our midfield and surely gives us the best midfield in the league. There’s talk of Zubimendi linked to other clubs – one of which is Chelski. There should be no world where we sell one of our better players to them.
People are quick to forget the first half a season Zubimendi had at Arsenal, I would say he was one of our star players. The problem we had last season is the over-dependence on Zubimendi. And Rice. The signing of Bruno G goes some way to resolve the heavy reliance on the same midfield core.
The bad transfer news since I last posted. Vini Jr. At one stage around Wednesday morning, I genuinely thought we were going to get him. Had we signed him I honestly believe we’d have walked the title and probably would have gotten over the line with the UCL.
But that’s not what happened. Instead he renewed at Real Madrid. I feel as disappointed as Arsenal losing a key game against a rival.
You know what? He’s a bang average player at best. I’m not in denial – you’re in denial. This is where my vendetta-against-Vini arc begins. I will be watching his every move with complete hate. I mean, who needs him, we have Reiss Nelson anyway.
I seriously have no idea who else we could go for. I would have thought hijacking Liverpool’s move for Barcola but that doesn’t seem to be on the cards. Alvarez seems to still be sending flirtatious moves toward Barcelona. And is Nico Williams really all that much more of an improvement on Martinelli? Do we risk it and stick with Martinelli with Eze and Tzolis able to play there? At least until a better option comes up in the market in January or next summer?
I really can’t think of the right solution.
Then we have the ugly transfer news. Links to the Spuds captain. A player I do not rate in the slightest. The only funny thing would be Arsenal taking another Spuds captain from them. But ultimately I think the joke would be on us. Hopefully this isn’t something that’s real.
Maybe the plan is to show an interest in a ridiculous defender so a move for Konsa is more widely accepted.
A couple of friendlies have taken place the last week. Yes, Arsenal lost both. Nothing to lose your shit over people. They’re friendlies. If there were ever a time for Gyokeres and Havertz to miss chances, now is that time.
You can’t read too much into these friendlies. Last season we lost to Spuds – and how did that season end up going for both clubs? A Premier League championship for one, and a relegation battle for the other.
There’s also been times in the past where Arsenal have looked amazing in pre-season friendlies – only to have a mediocre season that followed.
So yeah, take with a huge pinch of salt.
I’ll be honest, I haven’t watched any of the friendlies. I’ve seen a few highlights but nothing substantial.
I was driving during the Emirates Cup game. My main takeaway is that the BBC Sports app seems to have a new update where real time scores are displayed on my Apple Watch. And whenever there is a goal there will be a slight buzz to alert me. I like this.
The score also pops up on CarPlay, but it didn’t seem to update to show which team actually scored the goal. Which is about as useful as a bowling ball in a football match.
There can be better ways to stay on top of the scores when driving long distances. Such as the radio (ask your grandparents, kids). But I have no such option in my car when my 6 year old daughter insists on listening to the KPop Demon Hunters soundtrack on repeat.
