Happy Sunday people. Hope you’re bracing yourself for Storm Isha. Why do they make these storms sound so friendly? I mean, people die through these storms right? I think Storm MotherF*cker would be a more appropriate name. Pardon the french.
Operation Get-The-OddDaughter-To-Sleep-In-Her-Own-Room-Again is in motion. The plan yesterday was to get the base pink and purple onto the walls and then get the skirtings painted.
There were a few hiccups that delayed things. You ever see that skit in Malcolm in the Middle where the dad, Hal, goes to change a light bulb? But he continually gets sidetracked by something else that needs fixing. At the end his wife, Lois, comes home from work to find him fixing the car and asks him if he got round to changing the lightbulb to which he screams – “What does it look like I’m doing?”
Ah, I don’t do it justice. Let me find the video clip on YouTube.

Here it is, I recommend watching it if you have a spare 42 seconds.
I’ve lost track I’ve why I’m sharing this.
Oh yes, that’s it, my morning yesterday was pretty much like that when I was preparing the room to be painted. It involved dismantling a bed. Rearranging another room. Putting the bed back together again in rearranged room. Realising the home-movers did a terrible job putting the bed together again so there were some screws loose and bolts missing.
But… This is where my luck changed. I went through my tool cupboard hoping to find bolts that would fit – there are A LOT of screws and bolts there – and to my amazement I found the very bolts that were supposed to go on the bed 3 years ago. Mrs OddFather is trying to take credit for this but I am not going to let her have it – this was all me! It’s funny how I’m the first to be blamed when something goes wrong, yet she’s the first to get credit when something goes right. Is it like this in every marriage?
Anyway, I was feeling pretty lucky about the whole bolt situation. Feeling like it was going to be my lucky day. And then in celebration, I proceed to walk into the bed and trip over.
Thanks, karma.
So, I had to make the difficult decision to miss the Arsenal game to stay on track. It’s not as though I missed many goals… we won 5-0. However, come the end of the day, the pink and purple is on the walls, and the skirtings painted. I’m not going to lie – it’s not the best painting job I’ve ever done. But it will be satisfactory to a 4 year old. Also, I realised I should have added another colour of paint to add an extra layer to get the mountain-look I was going for. But once again, this will do and the OddDaughter will know no less.
Today I’m going to add a unicorn and a moon to the wall to make it extra tacky for a child. Hope you all have a good day and stay safe as Storm Isha does her thing.
