£60m down the drain, Kai Havertz scores again!
No rest for the wicked. Struggling to get this one out early enough, but here’s my 5 quick thoughts.
1. That was a great gesture towards Kai Havertz
Odegaard handing Havertz the ball to take the penalty was a class act. We may have been 2-0 up at the time but the pressure was still huge on Havertz. Miss the penalty and the target on his back was going to get unbearably huge. But it’s the love from the players to give him that chance, to celebrate the scored penalty with such gusto, and the singing of his song by the away fans that makes me love this club so much. It’s too easy to look at footballers as overpaid, spoilt individuals – but that doesn’t mean they’re without their mental issues – even if it is just a loss of confidence. The love shown towards Havertz on Saturday goes some way to restore my faith in humanity. I’m not crying, you are.
2. Our away form is nothing to be sniffed at
What a controlled, comfortable performance that was. The stream I was watching the game on wasn’t great, but the control Arsenal showed still made it a delightful experience. Let’s bring some of this form home now, eh?
3. The travelling Arsenal fans are a huge reason for our success on the road
…And no doubt a pain in the arse of home teams. I know I mentioned this in the first point, but not for the first time in the last couple of years have the travelling fans made me wish I could be amongst them, singing along with joy.
4. I really, really want Smith Rowe to have his moment
There was a clip I saw online where Smith Rowe was looking upset at the final whistle. And I feel for him. He’s such an exciting player on his day but hasn’t had the greatest of years due to injury and not being selected. He came agonisingly close to scoring on Saturday. It will come. And we fans (as well as the players) will be right alongside him celebrating!
5. I prematurely celebrated Invincibles day
Not a bad weekend for the gooners. With Manchester United going through another crisis, Liverpool losing to VAR (albeit against scum), and especially Manchester City losing their first game of the Premier League season – and one more than us! I was celebrating Invincibles day forgetting Liverpool and Sp*rs had yet to play… Not to mention we’re still unbeaten too.
Song at the whistle
That Waka Waka song has been going round and round my head since Saturday.
