Celebration police

I’m feeling a bit embarrassed after my last post. Didn’t really know where to go from there. I woke up yesterday morning in a bit of a panic about the post – looking to remove it quickly. However, I received some nice messages of reassurance which changed my mind. And made me realise just how useful this blog is for me and my mental health too. So, I’ve decided to ignore the post and focus on something else.

Yesterday was a bit of a topsy turvy day. One minute I was joking around with the OddDaughter, playing with her full of energy. The next I found myself lost in thought and a little absent.

By the end of the day it was time to watch the football. A big game for the Arsenal. Facing a strong Liverpool side that were (and still are) looking good for a title win. I’m not going to lie, I was thinking a draw would have been a good result for us. But we won 3-1 and fully deserved the win too.

Wait… don’t disappear – I promise this post isn’t all about football… There’s more to it… Come back!

You see, at the end of the game, I felt good. Too often on a Sunday evening, I would feel depressed due to an Arsenal defeat. Which would then spill into the following day and week. Yesterday though, I was happy. I celebrated at the final whistle. The players too, and the manager, were all jubilant. Celebrating with the club photographer. Sprinting across the pitch in celebration.

Yet, the pundits came out in full force. Mentioning how Arsenal are over-celebrating. As if we’ve won the title. And we should instead just walk back down the tunnel instead of celebrating in the manner we were.

Utter shit.

The players, and managers, live for these moments. A win against Liverpool is nothing to be sniffed at. It doesn’t mean we all think we’ve won the title. It is a pure emotional response to winning a game that means a lot to the fans and everyone at the club.

The biased pundits say it means nothing right now, that we should save it for if we ever win the title again. Ridiculous. Especially as Liverpool’s manager is one of the most emotional managers in the game. A manager that would celebrate wildly even at a draw at times. And I admire him for it.

If the argument is that the win is insignificant – then what is the point of celebrating anything in life? Even a title win is fairly insignificant when you look at all the crap going on in the world. So, why celebrate a title win if you’re doing jack shit about the wars occurring around the world. Why celebrate anything when we are nothing but tiny specks in the universe that ultimately have no purpose other than to die along with the planet one day. In 100 years time, most of us will be forgotten and not thought about.

Depressing, eh? Is that what these biased pundits want?

Or maybe… we should celebrate all the small things in life. Celebrate the lovely coffee you’ve had today. Celebrate the hot shower you’re able to have. Celebrate the fact you have food on your plate. Celebrate the fact you woke up today and have a chance to go at life again.

So the point of all this? F*ck you Carragher. F*ck you Ferdinand. F*ck you Richard Keys.

Find something to celebrate today.
