It’s Blue Monday… hurrah. I have to say, I’m surprised I’ve made it to 2 weeks of writing daily. I can thank the engagement I’m getting from lots of people for reaching this milestone – however minor it may seem. I’m still not sure how long I’ll keep going with the daily posts. Getting to the end of January would be an achievement but ultimately it’ll depend on how many people continue to tune in. Feel free to get in touch if there’s any topics you’d like me to cover… turns out I can ramble about almost anything. I doubt those that know me well are surprised.
After all the positivity and preaching over the weekend, I feel I’m slowing down a bit today. Maybe it’s this horrible cold snap we’re having right now. I’m definitely more of a hot-weather guy than a cold-weather guy. I need to head out to go grocery shopping today but seeing the car covered in frost is creating a bit of a barrier (or an excuse) for me. I don’t need lunch today, do I? And I’m sure Mrs OddFather and the OddDaughter can survive without dinner for one night. I have to admit, I’m one of those dads where if the OddDaughter says she’s hungry I respond with “Hi Hungry, I’m your dad!”. I’m sure she’s laughing on the inside…

The OddDaughter asked Santa for a sledge this Christmas. She received it, but she also automatically assumed there would be snow on Christmas Day. She wasn’t impressed when snow didn’t arrive. I’m sure she’s making a case for false advertising on all the Christmas cards, and on television programmes etc where all they do is market snow at Christmas. But yeah, she’s still waiting to use her sledge.
As much as I’d like her to use the sledge I’m really not keen on snow. It’s just never agreed with me. I remember getting picked up from work by my brother when I was a teen – the carpark was full of snow – and as I tried to make it to his car I slipped onto the floor around 3-4 times. What made it even more odd was the fact nobody else walking on the snow was falling in the same way. Maybe the area I was walking on was a burial ground for banana skins or something? Eventually my brother had to drive to me, in order for me to pull myself up onto the car and jump in. Think of a very bad getaway.
Even as I’ve gotten older and replaced my shoes (to ensure that wasn’t the problem), I find I have to walk so slow on snow. Elderly people with walking sticks pass me by at speed too. So yeah, chance are, if snow does arrive, it’ll be the OddDaughter pulling a broken me home on the sledge.

And that’s where I’m leaving it today. A very British post talking about the weather. Hope you’re all safe and warm, wherever you are.
